January Meeting Notes

The following is a recap of the January meeting and additional notes.

Weaving Related Items from the Estate of Paula Russell
The items from Ms. Russell’s estate were on display. They include various weaving tools, books with weaving samples, twinning loom and two small mystery looms.

8 Shaft Folding Loom Update (also from estate of Ms. Russell)
Betty ordered new heddle bars for the new loom and those have arrived. They will be cut to fit the loom. The guild voted to approve Georgean’s purchase of warp for the new loom so that items for ANWG booth can be woven on it. She will warp it and it will be available for checkout. In September, the loom will be used for the Sheep to Shawl. The guild also voted to let other guilds know that they will be able to use our loom for their Sheep to Shawl activities at the Western Washington State Fair. These guilds will need to arrange with us prior to the event.

Treasurer’s Report
26 members have paid their 2008-2009 dues.
Major Upcoming Expense: $400 for rental of church meeting space and library space. (In additional to the rental fee, members are asked to bring empty egg cartons to guild meetings. These will be donated to the church’s food bank.)

Sheep to Shawl Report
The fleece purchased in January has been washed. The team has picked a spiral design and the guild voted to dye the fleece a burgundy red color. The team will dye it.

Upcoming Activities
A Dye Party will be held in February or March at Betty’s studio. The date will be determined at the February meeting. If you wish to have a dye day with 2-3 other members before then, contact Betty.

Open Studio Stash Reduction Tour
The March meeting will be a member’s studio tour and stash reduction sale. Instead of hauling our stuff to the guild meeting to sell it, we will travel to your studio. Rosalie is organizing the event for us. If you want to participate, please email Rosalie. She will be designing the route. We will meet at the church and carpool to the various locations.

ANWG Booth

We could use a few more transparencies for the ANWG booth. Please contact Rocky at if you would like to check out the transparency CAMEL.

Roc Day Celebration
Georgean organized two spinning contests for our Roc Day celebration. The first was a fine spinning competition and was won by Betty. This was followed by a blind spinning contest (everyone was blindfolded) and the winner of the most spun while blindfolded was Toni.

ANWG Conference
Online registration for the 2009 Conference is open. The conference will be held May 28 - June 3 on the campus of Gonzaga University in Spokane. The conference booklet can be found at this internet link: http://anwg2009.org/images/ANWG2009_Registration_Booklet.pdf . General Conference information is at: http://anwg2009.org/index.php?section=home . The $395 conference fee includes three ½ day classes or the equivalent of 9 hours of class time, room (dorm rooms), 8 meals during the conference and more.

February Meeting: Bags! Bags! Bags!
We will be featuring and discussing all the different types of shopping bags that can be made from your weaving, knitting and other fiber projects. Please bring any examples that you would like to share. Check out the Handwoven bag ideas at: http://www.interweave.com/weave/bag-of-the-month.asp

Request for Knitting Needles:
Sheryl is asking for donations of short, straight knitting needles and small left-over balls of good yarns. She is volunteering at Meeker Middle School in Kent, teaching At Risk students knitting. She does this after school on Tuesdays. She could use some help if anybody is interested in helping young students learn the fine art of knitting.
